If you have an HMO and Winston-Salem, NC (Reynolda campus students) or Charlotte, NC (Charlotte campus students) is out-of-network, your coverage doesn’t meet our criteria. If your HMO offers guest privileges, you must contact your insurer to receive guest privileges and do so prior to waiving coverage
• Provide prescription drug benefits
• Remain in effect while enrolled at WFU

To terminate your spring coverage, you must have insurance that meets our waiver criteria. Students who are not returning to WFU for the spring semester will not be re-enrolled and their last day of coverage is December 31, 2026.

No, students who already submitted a waiver for the fall semester do not need to submit a new one for the spring. In Workday, the waiver will appear as a separate line labeled “Health Insurance Premium Waiver.”

Yes, students who are participating in study abroad programs are required to waive or enroll. Wake Forest University requires students to maintain U.S. based health insurance in the event that a student needs to return to the U.S. for medical treatment.

Student Blue covers most primary care visits, pharmacy needs, and lab fees with no co-pay. Visit the Deacon Health website to read more about the services they offer.

X-ray services, which are managed by Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, are not included. See the Benefits guide for details.

Student Blue is a worldwide policy, so you will have coverage wherever you travel. The plan does have in-network providers around the world. You may search for providers outside of North Carolina on the Student Blue website or by calling the number on the back of your ID card for “Locate
Non-NC Provider”.

If you visit an in-network provider in another state, you will need to make sure the provider files the claim to the BCBS of the state in which services are received. For example, if you see an in-network provider in Florida, the provider will need to file a claim to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida.

Providers should be sure to include the alpha prefix RGF (three letters preceding the BCBSNC member ID card) when filing claims to the local BCBS. Visit bcbsnc.com/student for more details.

No.  If you are enrolled for the Spring Term of coverage on Student Blue, your coverage is in effect until 7/31 of that year.

Yes, if you are enrolled at WFU and taking in-person classes, you are eligible for the insurance. 

The Student Blue insurance plan allows for two preventative dental visits per policy year with an in-network provider.

Student Blue allows for one preventive vision visit per year.  The student is reimbursed $200 for the cost of frames or contact lenses.
